What are used booster pumps?

Used booster pumps are centrifugal pumps used to increase the pressure of liquid that is already flowing from one place to another in a pipeline. Due to this property, this type of centrifugal pump is used in many applications. This is often done in combination with vertical turbine pumps and vertical pumps to increase the pressure even higher. Often these pumps are placed in the middle or end of a pipeline. This is because the pressure cannot be supplied by a pump, and therefore support from a booster pump is required.

Applications for used booster pumps

Due to the great properties of booster pumps, they are used for many applications. To give you an idea for which applications a booster pump is suitable, we have listed a few.

  • Boiler feed
  • Moving water up a hill
  • Pumping water up through a high-rise building
  • High-pressure cleaning and spraying systems
  • Anywhere where higher pressures are required

How do used booster pumps work?

Most booster pumps are centrifugal pumps, which work by having multiple impellers suck or push the liquid into the pipeline. This increases the pressure. Some booster pumps are single stage, these have only a single impeller. This makes them extremely suitable for applications where little pressure is required. Multi-stage configurations are also available for applications requiring high pressure. These have multiple impellers and are suitable for transporting liquid to great heights and long distances.

In which range used booster pumps work?

Used booster pumps come in different sizes and dimensions. In order to make a correct distribution, force, pressure and flow rate are often considered. Here are a few guidelines to give you an idea of the different booster pumps.

  • Flow rate ranges between 5 and 10,000 gpm
  • Total head (pressure) ranges between 200 and 7,500 ft
  • Horsepower ranges between 1 and 5,000 hp
